Gift Tags…

This was a great way to use up some of the odd sized trimmings from around the shop.

And…The first project where our little Kelsey’s (see previous post) made a significant contribution.

The tags are hand cut and printed using 8 different fonts in different forms from our collection of vintage metal type on Pure White 100lb Textured paper, 100% PCW – We love trees! Each one strung with Biodegradable, 100% natural cotton string.

With lots of room to write on the back!

The biggest challenge came in our package design. We had our heart set on a backer, large enough for the tags to hang freely inside the cello bag. This of course was a large BLANK canvas, which set me forth into assembling the largest composition of hand-set type I’ve done so far…

…showing our appreciation for Mother Nature!…

All packed up in an eco-friendly cello bag.

…With special thanks to the SUPPORT TEAM! Without them, we would have gotten things done twice as fast…:)

Now available it our Etsy Shop!

Christmas Galore!

This year we got into the holiday spirit early. We decided to use the impending holiday to provide us with our first company project…MERRY MERRY…CHRISTMAS!…cards.

The decided card size was 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ with an A2 evelope. Each card was cut from 14″ x 20″ sheets of  100lb Pure White Textured stock 100% PCW, that would yield 4 each.

We sat down in the evenings and sketched out images that portrayed the holiday spirit. We even spent an evening folding pieces of paper and cutting out snowflakes to try and create an image appropriate enough to carve and print - just as you all probably did when we you were young and decorating your classroom.

Once the images had been decided upon – it was time to carve!

Linoleum Cut

Next… we got into printing on our c.1910 Chandler & Price Platen Press “Old Style”.

We printed the inside with ”CHRISTMAS!” using foundry type in 36pt SWING. This step was the same for ALL cards.

Then came the carved linoleum blocks, in BLACK. Then, more 36pt SWING stating “Merry Merry” in GREEN. We like the clean and uncluttered look!

After sending each card through the press three times and of course, allowing the oil based ink to dry overnight between each pass, we could get on to packaging.

But wait!…Someone needed to do quality control…Stitch – you’re up!

That’s a keen eye you have…Good Job!

All together…

We printed a Belly Band to neatly hold things together, tell you about the contents, and proudly display our company logo.

 The Assembly Line…

Finally…Here we have it. THE FINISHED GOODS!
